"It's going to take an army of men to save our boys from the destruction of manhood."
- Michael Hawkins, Co-founder of ManCore Leadership Program

Like it or not, it takes work to achieve manhood. Cultures around the world have rites of passage to symbolize it, as well as customs to preserve it. This list focuses on some of the most important, yet basic, aspects of the journey from boyhood to manhood.
Although there is no one way to categorize manliness, there are certain attributes that people all around the world consider "manly." We focus on the 3 most important components of manhood throughout ManCore Leadership Program.
The ManCore Leadership Program, LLC is a community-based mentoring program in Bowie, MD created to develop the interpersonal and career skills of young men. Founded by Phillip S. Williams and Michael D. Hawkins in 2014, ManCore’s mission is to share, teach and demonstrate eight principles of manhood to boys between the ages of 10-17, enabling them to achieve their dreams and become men who are strong, responsible and productive in society.
The high-touch, weekly program helps young men establish healthy, positive relationships both within their peer group and with male community leaders in various industries to break the misguided traits of manhood and instill the core principles of integrity, patience, responsibility, discipline, respect, courage, service and honesty.
The program is designed to help boys learn and achieve key milestones that serve as rites of passage that address the development of their mind, body and spirit. There are two tracks: ManCore 1, which emphasizes building self-esteem and teaches key interpersonal skills, and ManCore 2, which reinforces the skills by providing real-life application opportunities such as job interviews and money management. Success requires commitment from the volunteers, students, their parents and/or guardians and family members.
